The construction work that has taken over many California highways will be put on hold for the Fourth of July weekend, but drivers still face delays and closures because of emergencies and damaged roads.
The California Transportation Department is warning holiday drivers about these stretches of highway in the northern part of the state:
In addition, the purple dots denote two roadside rest areas that will be closed during the holiday weekend, on Highway 299 near Salyer and on I-5 just north of Lake Shasta.
